In coordination with the Center for Regional Studies at the University of New Mexico, the Center for Southwest Research has received and is currently in the process of preserving more than 500 reel to reel audio tapes recently donated by the family of the late Dr. Ruben Cobos. These unique field recordings capture the Spanish folkways and language of New Mexico and Colorado during the middle of the last century, and document a way of life and language that was even then disappearing from our communities. Once processing is complete, the collection will be available to students and researchers in the Anderson Reading Room at the Center for Southwest Research in Zimmerman Library.
